| Prefectorial System |
 |
All students of the school belong to one of the four houses, i.e., Shakti, Shanti, Pragati and Prerna. The house system is an integral part of public schools. This helps to co-ordinate various activities and leads to the building up of esprit de corps and camaraderie of a lasting nature among students. Each house is placed under a House Master /Mistress, who is directly responsible for the selection and grooming of members of the House for various competitions. House prefects take on the responsibility of overall discipline of the school on a rotation-basis. School appointments include School and House Captains and Vice Captains and a number of prefects who assist them; besides Captains and Vice Captains of various sports teams in each house.
The House Prefect is guided in his /her tasks by a team of teachers. Regular Inter-House competitions in various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are held throughout the year, aimed at fostering healthy rivalry and competitive spirit. Houses vie with one another to keep the house flag aloft and to win the coveted Cock-House trophy.
The prefectorial system forms the backbone of life in the school. Initiatives and capabilities of individual students are continuously watched and those with inherent or cultivated leadership qualities are selected to the Prefects’ Council. Students’ affairs are managed by this Council, headed by the School Captain and the Head Girl. At the house level, the House Master /Mistress and tutors are assisted by senior students acting as House Captains and Prefects.
The Prefects’ Council is encouraged to manage their affairs independently, though under the guidance of the members of staff. While the School Captain and School Vice Captain serve as the link between the school authorities and the students community, house captains serves as the link between the house masters/Mistress and members of the house. |
